Gabriel Kuri is a Mexican artist who critiques the world of commerce through his art. He creates visually refined sculptures, collages, installations, and photographs, working from repurposed natural, industrial, and mass-produced objects and other materials of related to consumption. In “Untitled (Il Est Temps)” Kuri reconfigures the meaning of the composition as a whole by creating a collage of one torn stub placed on a vintage magazine paper. Here, as also a material archivist, the artist examines the function of marketing and consumerism. Kuri’s works are in permanent collections of The Hammer Museum, Los Angeles; Centre Pompidou, Paris, and Museum of Modern Art in New York among many others.
