At first an inconsequential image used in a stencil-making demonstration for a peer, Shepard Fairey’s Andre the Giant motif had become a symbolic, enduring element throughout the artist’s oeuvre. The present piece brings up themes of anti-authoritarian sentiments and a questioning of multi-national consumerist society, classically addressed in much of Fairey’s work.
